It’s a weird feeling, really. Little thing relying on me for food and shelter and nurturing. I never thought I would make a good one but all of a sudden these instincts are coming out. I’m also, for probably the first time in my life, actually thinking of someone other than myself. (Slight exaggeration, but having lived alone for the last five years I haven’t really had to be considerate of others in my home for a while.)
Yep, I’m a mom. Here’s my darling little Clarabelle:
Some people might be saying, “Oh dear, Jen is turning into one of those cat people who calls herself a mom and talks for her cat and stuff.” I totally am. I take back years of judgment of pet owners as I never really got it until I brought this little girl home from the Humane Society on Saturday. My life really did change.
I love her. She’s a cuddler and follows me around the house. She never cries, barely scratches and is an avid fan of her litter box (thank god!). She does like to jump up on the counter/stove when I am cooking (small heart attacks have ensued) but I’m slowly training her not to do it.
She chose me. I went to the shelter to find another cat and was looking at him when she reached out of her cage and tapped me on the shoulder, meowed and hopped around in a circle. I fell in love and thanks to my good gal pal Mimi, went back before she was gone and brought her home.
No, this is not going to turn into a “me and my cat” blog, by any means. But I am excited and Clarabelle (her name at the shelter was Clara; I added the belle) is a part of my life now. So, of course, sometimes she will be a part of my blog.

Also, nothing wrong with calling yourself a cat’s mom – you’re not in trouble until your relatives pick it up and start talking about their “grandcat” etc. :-P
